St. Gabriel’s Health is one of only eight hospitals in Minnesota to receive a zero infection rate for catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), according to the healthcare-associated infection dataset from CMS.  Only 514 hospitals in the United States received this rating.

The Healthcare-Associated Infections-Hospital database uses measures developed by the CDC and collected through the National Healthcare Safety Network to show how often patients contract certain infections during medical treatment. Data was collected from July 2023 to June 2024 and was last updated April 30, 2024. The CDC calculates a standardized infection ratio, which considers factors such as care location, the number of patients with existing infections, lab methods, hospital affiliation with a medical school, hospital bed size, patient age, and patient health. According to the CMS data dictionary, these measures apply to all patients treated in acute care hospitals, including adult, pediatric, neonatal, Medicare, and non-Medicare patients.
